Why have a walk to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence?
There’s an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in those shoes, but it's for a great cause -- to raise awareness and funds to support victims of domestic and sexual violence.
Who can register to walk?
Men and boys are eligible to register. We have 3 registration categories: individual; team of 3; team of 5. Teams need to identify a team captain who is the contact person for your group. Teams also need to come up with a team name (have fun with that one!).
Do I (really) have to wear high heels?
Of course we prefer that men wear high heels. They are available in very large sizes online! Just be sure and order early. There is no “minimum” height requirement for your heels.
How do I register?
You can register either online (see below), by mail (see below), or in person on the day of the walk. We’d appreciate it if you would register as early as possible. If you register the day of the walk, we can’t guarantee you a T-shirt although we’ll try our best.
Is there a registration fee?
Registration fee is $30 for individual; $75 for team of 3; and $120 for a team of 5. Walk registration includes your barbecue tickets and one beverage ticket.
Can people sponsor me?
Absolutely! While you’re not required to get sponsors, remember that this is for a great cause. Funds raised go directly to support the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service. We have some fantastic prizes for each category of walkers who raise the most money (and who have the BEST shoes!).
Can my business sponsor the event?
Yes! Corporate sponsorships are available for $500. Your logo will appear on the t-shirts and signage.
How much are the barbecue tickets?
Non-walkers can purchase barbecue tickets for $15. See ticket request form at bottom of this page.
What about women and girls participating?
Take a load off, ladies! You have enough blisters! Still, if you'd like to, you do not have to pay a fee to walk. You are also welcome to cheer walkers on from the sidelines or wait at the finishline barbecue. Women are also invited to raise funds for RACS by getting sponsorships.
What if I can’t make it but still want to support the cause?
You can make a donation through the RACS (www.racsjc.org) website using Paypal or a credit card. If you make a donation online, please specify “Walk a Mile” in the “purpose” box. You can also mail us a check at RACS, P.O. Box 416, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102. Please put “Walk a Mile donation” in the memo line.
